A Message From Esben Staerk, President Of LEGO® Education

Hello Everyone,

Over the past year it has been inspiring to see the way educators have gone above and beyond to ensure that learning could continue. Their creativity flourished in the face of what often felt like insurmountable challenges. And when the pandemic further exposed the inadequacies and inequities in our education system they continued to find ways to reach and engage students.

This generation of learners will need to continuously adapt, evolve, and future-proof their skillsets in order to succeed. This is why at LEGO® Education we believe that now is the time to rethink learning. Now is the time to consistently provide engaging, meaningful, and playful experiences that can foster the lifelong love of learning that will be critical in preparing students for a future of rapid change and innovation.

And that is why I am excited to unveil the latest LEGO Education learning solution, LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential. SPIKE™ Essential ignites a passion for STEAM learning in students, engaging them in them playful problem-solving and preparing them to be independent, resilient thinkers. This solution engages students in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts while contributing to literacy, math, and social-emotional development.
And there is more. SPIKE Essential joins LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime, LEGO® Education BricQ Motion and supported by LEGO® Education Professional Development to make up a complete learning system that empowers teachers and students through purposeful play. This is the LEGO® Learning System.

The LEGO Learning System combines standards-aligned curriculum units, familiar LEGO® bricks, a simple coding progression, intelligent hardware, and professional development, creating an intuitive, inclusive, and highly adaptable hands-on system that meets every student where they are, year after year. The LEGO Learning System offers the kind of playful STEAM learning experiences that allow students to develop the confidence and 21st century skills they’ll need to succeed now and long into the future.
The challenges educators faced this past year have been unlike any other. And through it all, they have shown extraordinary resilience as they continue to rethink learning and focus on whole child development. It is our hope that the solutions and resources we provide at LEGO Education not only help educators build engagement and excitement but also inspire their students to become life-long learners.

Thank you,
Esben Staerk

I think all educators around the world appreciates Esben Staerk preliminary phrase about educators engagement under the pandemic - thank you!

I've been using the LEGO Education System and the EV3, and I love how the hands-on STEAM learning facilitates the students (and teachers) ability to deepen their knowledge of STEAM concepts through play.

The more holistic approach on the SPIKE Prime solution (compared to the EV3), enables the learners to much quicker build concepts, explore, connect ideas and continually iterate - hopefully I can convince my school to invest in the SPIKE Prime solutions and adopt the Learn Through Play concept!

LEGO Education System are great resources to a more refined view of learning, and matches well with Lave and Wenger's view on Situated Learning.

I hope to be able to further expand and master my competencies so I can keep facilitating playful STEAM learning with my students.

As an educator using EV3 the past two years have been very disappointing in the way Lego “rooled” out scratch coding for the product. The web site was extremely disjiointed and missing important information. To this day there are several part of the Lego web site that are still not updated to the new coding format. Sad.
